Ventilation Is the Backbone of Every New Poultry House
When a new farm is commissioned, the first question is rarely about feed — it is about air. A modern broiler or layer house can hold tens of thousands of birds in a single tunnel, and every one of them releases heat and moisture every minute. Without a properly engineered high-volume push-pull fan system, the internal temperature climbs, the litter saturates with humidity, and flock performance collapses within days. NPW designs and supplies complete ventilation packages that turn an empty new building into a stable, controllable growing environment.
How a Push-Pull Fan Layout Works
Push-pull ventilation is the most efficient configuration for long, narrow poultry houses. Large exhaust fans are installed on the end wall (the “pull” side), while intake fans and evaporative cooling pads are placed on the opposite gable (the “push” side). The result is a single directional airflow corridor — a tunnel — that travels the full length of the house at a controlled speed.
- Exhaust (pull) units: 50-inch and 36-inch belt-driven or direct-drive fans move up to 40,000 m³/h each, drawing hot, ammonia-laden air out of the house.
- Intake (push) units: Balanced inflow fans and cooling pads maintain negative pressure between 15 and 25 Pa, so fresh air enters evenly instead of dropping straight onto the birds.
- Control system: Temperature, humidity and static-pressure sensors modulate fan stages automatically, so cooling responds to real conditions rather than a fixed timer.
Correct tunnel ventilation can reduce the perceived temperature inside a poultry house by 5–8 °C on a hot afternoon — the difference between a comfortable flock and a heat-stress disaster.
Engineering Details That Matter in the Field
Not every fan performs the same way after two years of dusty, ammonia-heavy operation. NPW ventilation equipment is built around a few practical priorities:
- Galvanized steel housings and shutters that resist corrosion and keep a tight seal when closed.
- Precision-balanced blades and pulleys that eliminate vibration and keep airflow constant across all fan stages.
- Heavy-duty motors and belt tensioners rated for continuous summer duty with minimal maintenance.
- Modular frames that fit standard wall openings, simplifying installation in newly constructed houses.
From Layout Design to On-Site Commissioning
Ventilation performance depends on layout as much as on hardware. The NPW engineering team calculates air exchange rate, tunnel wind speed (targeting 2.5–3.0 m/s across the birds at 1.5 m height) and fan staging for each building’s dimensions and bird density. Equipment is packed for export in reinforced crating, and load inspections are carried out before dispatch so panels, blades and motors arrive undamaged and ready to install.
For a new farm, the ventilation system is not an accessory — it is the foundation of biosecurity, feed conversion and bird welfare. Choosing a partner that supplies the fans, the cooling pads and the control logic as one integrated package keeps the whole house working in balance.
